UTD's Cylinder and Valve Technician Class is an academic and hands on class that prepares the student to visually inspect and oxygen clean aluminum and steel SCUBA cylinders and valves. The class addresses the proper care, maintenance and inspection of cylinders and valves, as well as proper safety precautions. The goals of Cylinder and Valve Technician training are:
To develop the student’s practical knowledge in the proper procedures of visually inspecting SCUBA cylinders, preparing them to visually inspect cylinders to determine whether they are suitable for use.
To develop the student’s practical knowledge in the proper procedures of visually inspecting SCUBA cylinder valves and manifolds, preparing them to visually inspect cylinders to determine whether they are suitable for use.
Create a visual inspection method that is consistent, safe, organized and meets Compressed Gas Association Standards, US Department of Transportation Regulations, Transport Canada’s Regulations and manufacturers’ recommendations.
The online academic portion of the class can be used by anyone interested in learning more about how to inspect and maintain their tanks and valves. Then you can move on to the hands on portion of the program with a UTD instructor.
During the hands on training, you will have the opportunity to visually inspect a variety of steel and aluminum cylinders, and disassemble, service, and re-assemble scuba tank valves.
This is a valuable class for all divers, giving you an opportunity to understand more about the life saving equipment you dive with.
