What do we value as Public Safety Divers and Team Leaders?
First and foremost, we value safety. We always want to follow the first rule- Every member of our team comes home safely at the end of the day.
Our skills, abilities and competence to complete our missions comes next. We value knowledge of how to complete the search and rescue or recovery, the selection of the most efficient methods to accomplish the mission, our skills with the equipment and our abilities as divers.
Our Integrity. As a team leader we need to write our policies so that we give our divers the best possible chance to safely succeed in their mission. We need to consider all applicable laws and best practices of our industry in order to assure that we’ve protected ourselves and our department leadership from any inference that we could have done more to assure the safety of our personnel.
How do we accomplish this?
We invest the time to make sure our standards and guidelines comply and exceed all applicable laws, standards and best practices.
We make sure our divers are physically able to accomplish their mission.
We train. Then we train some more. Then we do it all over again. We always look for new opportunities to improve or skills.
We strive for excellence. If we think we’ve achieved that then we set the bar higher.
We guard against complacency.
